Kensite provides the Welfare Units for the GM Mayor Elections

Today, more than two million people across Greater Manchester can vote for their next mayor.

It's the biggest by-election ever held in Britain. Ten boroughs. Bolton to Bury, Wigan to Tameside.

And a fair few of those votes will be cast inside one of ours.

This week our team has been deploying welfare and accommodation units across Greater Manchester to serve as temporary polling stations in suburbs, market towns, out into the rural edges. Wherever there wasn't a hall, a school or a community centre to hand, a unit went in.

Powered. Lit. Level. Accessible. Ready before the doors open at seven.

It's not glamorous work. Nobody's going to photograph the cabin unless the media turn up with our New PM Andy Burnham. But democracy needs somewhere to happen, and tomorrow in a good few corners of Greater Manchester, that somewhere is a grey/black Kensite much loved box unit we dropped off on a Tuesday.

Nathan McGuinness, Depot Manager at Kensite, said: "We supply units to construction sites most weeks of the year, so this one's been a bit different for the lads. Same job though, get it in position, get it right, make sure it's ready for whoever's using it. The difference is that tomorrow it's not a site team walking through the door, it's your neighbours. Wherever the unit's gone, from the middle of Manchester to villages you'd struggle to find on a map, someone will be putting their X in the box inside it. We're proud of that."

Nick Arnold, Strategic Partnerships Manager, said: "This is our first election work for a while and we're out to impress. Not just our client but those who go in the unit and experience the standard of a Kensite Welfare Unit. We know our next customer could be in there too. We've not done anything different - we don't have to as every unit leaves our yard fit for purpose and ready for action."
